  • Croatia on film

Since the 70D is heritage of Marathon now and I am, apart from a phone, without a digital camera (or at least a proper one), this year’s vacation photography went vintage. I had films in stock, so I took the opportunity to make use of them. I grabbed a film camera and hit the road to northern Croatia.

  • Acropolis Rallye of Greece 2025

Short Acropolis Rallye recap from June. Another wonderful weekend in Attica and central Greece. It had everything one expects from an Acropolis Rallye weekend. Sun, heat, dust, sea, drinks, delicious food, outdoor life and of course, rallye action.
If you ever come along the Gulf of Corinths north shore, make sure to stop in Eratini and have dinner on the beach. A lovely village, away from mass tourism.
After last years hospital visit, this years downer was the need to visit a police station. Like the Persians 2500 years ago, I got ripped off in Marathon and almost all my belongings are history as well now. In Marathon.
Goodbye my lovely EOS 70D and lenses. 😢

  • Unstrut sundowner

As a summer lover, grown up with kayaks, boats and rafts (the latter might be the reason why I don’t get the hype on SUPs), this is the best way to spend these endless summer days.
What the pictures don’t tell you: thousands of midgets. I don’t care.

  • Welcome to the family!

A quiet path carved through clouds and trees.
First test of a long-standing wish. Happy me!

  • Frozen mist

January 2025, a temperature inversion led to a few foggy days in central Thuringia. Paired with freezing temperatures, the fog created a white crust around everything within its reach.

    Pictures 1-3, 5 are taken with a Canon EOS70D + Sigma 17-50 2.8
Picture 4 is taken with an iPhone 12 mini, ultra wide lens

  • Winter lights

After a few years break, I went to the annual “winter lights” event at the ega-park again this winter. I mean, it was in winter time but it did not feel like winter. At least on that day.
Lovely to see how the event spreads more and more over the park with every year. Almost the whole park was being illuminated by various light installations and animations.

As it was an unusual mild day, it had been a comfortable walk through the park with enough patience to find beautiful details. And some delicious Thuringian street food of course. Haven’t eaten a Bratwurst since months at that time.

  • Smoke tree awesomeness in 2023

It was time again, the autumn colour [paradise] had been painted. Like every year, just georgeous.

I did an upgrade of my gear in September last year. This was the first time I went out with my Sigma 17-50 2.8 lens. I always wanted a wide-aperture lens on short focal length and so far, I am happy with it.

  • Stairway to heaven

An absolute highlight on Madeira. The well known “stairway to heaven”. Again I was really lucky with the weather that day. And again with not having others around me. This spot gets heavily crowded around sunrise as it is part of the PR1 hiking trail between Pico do Arieiro and Pico Ruivo. Many hikers use the magical light from the upcoming sun to start their hike.

  • There is no bad weather for biking

…you are just beneath the clouds.
Taken on an amazing down country ride around and down from Pico do Ariero. For my second bike ride on Madeira, I chose an organized tour. This had the benefit of leaving urban areas without getting exhausted. Nature around Funchal starts at 1000m above sea level or you have to travel to a different spot on the island.

I got shuttled up to 1300m where an amazing ride begun. A nice cross country ride up to 1600m around Pico do Ariero followed by an endless trail ride down to Funchal. I wish I had chosen a fully for that part of the jouney. Or at least a proper air fork. The bike I had was horrible on the technical parts. Anyway, the view and the fun were priceless. Absolutely stunning experience.

  • Up in the air

The scene was breathtaking and magical. Totally worth the early start of the day.
    5 stars, would definitely recommend.
