  • The classic

The view from Ponte Accademia. Another classic photo spot in Venice. Best time would have been around sunrise, but as said before, we were focussed on the evening hours. Still a nice picture.

  • So Venice

  • Piazza San Marco

This is definitely one of my favourite photos, taken this summer. Would have been better without other people and some pigeons flying away, but hey.

  • Beautiful Venice

I have been to Italy a few times in my life. Among smaller cities I was in Milan, Florence, Genoa and Cagliari. I have even seen their state printer from the inside. Okay, I just mention this to have something to tell about Rome. But I never was in Venice before. This time I closed that gap.

As on other trips before, we used the evening hours for sightseeing. Benefits: Most day tourists are leaving in the afternoon and temperatures are getting more comfy every minute. Especially in smaller Italian cities, street life wont start before 7pm. And of course, the advantage of the golden hour for taking photographs.

The trip: Spending the day in an air conditioned mall in Mestre (Italy trip without fashion shopping is no Italy trip), later then a short drive to the pre-booked parking lot at Mestre train station, followed by a 10 minute train ride and we arrived at Venice St. Lucia station around 4pm. An easy and stressless way to get there. when queueing up for Vaporetto tickets, some Germans appoached us and offered their day passes, for free! They where already leaving and they would become useless for them anyway. What a gift. Thank you!

We jumped on a Vaporetto which brought us to St. Mark’s Square. Then we were strolling through Venice via Academia and San Polo to the Rialto-Bridge. Another Vaporetto took us back to the station.

This photo was taken from Rialto-Bridge, shortly after sunset.

Tip: later we learned, another way to get to Venice is by Ferry from Fusina. In my oppinion the perfect way. Could there be a better way to enter a city, built on water, by coming over water?

  • The little Trabant adventure continues.

I took this picture on the last evening of this years trip to Sardegna. Again, it was great journey! This evening reflects the whole trip. Sitting on a beach and enjoying the warm wind, the sunset and and the crystal water of the Mediterranean Sea. While having a wine of course.

The second run of the Stages at Sardegna starts between 7 and 8 pm which lets the rallye action appear in the golden glow of the slowly setting sun.

  • Little Trabant adventures

Something different in between the rallye action pics. I took a model of a Trabant 601 with me and thought it would be fun to involve it in my photography on random occasions.

Btw: Jan Kopecky is passing by with his brand new Skoda Fabia R5 in the background. Taken on SS23 – Cala Flumini 2.

  • Seaside road trippin’

This one was taken at then end of our additional day. Before the Rallye action got us, we had a day off to enjoy culture (visiting a vinery) and beach fun. Before we went up the mountains to get to Friday’s first stage, we had dinner in Marina di Bosa. The photo was taken when leaving Bosa later on.

  • Rally d’Italia Sardegna here I come!

Last weekend was the time of the year again. The annual trip to a FIA World Rallye Championship run in outdoor and road trip style. After a few years of driving to the German round around the city of Trier it was not enough and we spread our wings and flew to the toughest round of the year, the Acropolis Rallye of Greece. Since two years, the so called “Rallye of Gods” is unfortunately not part of the WRC calendar anymore and we switched to the mediterranean island of Sardegna in 2014. And so we did this year.

And this is how an aviation nerd starts documenting a trip. AZ407 from Frankfurt to Rome as we descent into Fiumicino Airport.
