Pionieer species are growing on layers of ash. Together with the rusty red of iron-rich stones and some sunlight, they create a colourful landscape in an otherwise dark and grey environment.

Chiesa di San Nicolò is the church where Michael Corleone married Apollonia Vitelli.

Gole dell’Alcantara
Approx. 10.000 years ago, lava from an Etna eruption cooled down rapidly when hitting the water of the Alcantara river. The result are prismatic basalts, violently twisted and broken. Gole dell’Alcantara is an awesome place to spend time while bathing in the cold river.

The bell of „Chiesa di S. Antonia“. St. Anthony’s church is a rock chapell, built into the cliffs of Capo Milazzo.

Sciara del Fuoco
A once in a lifetime experience. Hopefully not! Stromboli spews lava last night. Seen from a boat, floating at the end of „Sciara del Fuoco“.
I need to come back one day for a hiking tour to the top and have a look into the crater from above.
Endless white beaches
