  • More or less professional solar eclipse footage

As I told you before, everything worked as expected and this is the result of “Plan C”. This old bridge camera does not have an optical view finder and everything is done by two LCD screens. This makes it uncritical to point directly into the sun and have a look in the tiny LCD view finder. The blurry shape of the sun is caused by chromatic aberrations. The downside of super zoom lens.

  • Usefull stuff

Somehow media caught the solar eclipse train to late to bring awareness for solar eclipse glasses into retail business. Among many others I had to choose “Plan B” to observe this years solar eclipse. I’m so glad I could finally benefit from studying 5 semester optics and have built this fancy camera obscura. I also developed “Plan C”, using my old Lumix bridge camera to shoot directly into the sun.

I can tell you: both things worked well!

  • Solar eclipse, huh?!

Found this light pattern on my desk in the morning of March 20th. Looks like we were having a solar eclipse ;)

  • Still snowy.

Took this one in the early morning a few weeks ago. Can’t remember exactly about my thoughts at that moment but I guess I just was frustrated about the ongoing appearance of snow. I like the backlight situation and the resulting long shadows

  • The series continues

As I told on similar pictures earlier, an aim-in-life-series of mine is taking pictures like this in as many places as possible. This time: Φαληράκι/Ῥόδος

  • Downtown Faliraki

Another photo taken in Faliraki in the late afternoon sun.

  • Faliraki

This photo was taken in downtown Faliraki.

Faliraki shares the fate of other tourist towns. Transformed from a fishing village into a conglomerate of taverns, pubs, night clubs and shops full of junk goods. Almost dead at day and shiny and funky at night times. Surrounded by hotels, full of tourists. It is pretty much the same as what I have seen in Loutraki, which hosted the Acropolis Rallye in the last years. Completely different to the small villages we found in Attika or on the Peleponnes. Anyway – still Greece, still sunny!

  • Suburban

I can’t explain why, but this is one thing i like about greece. The dreary atmosphere created by wan light, heat, dryness and abandoned buildings everywhere.

  • Heading for Rhodes City

On the way to downtown Rhodes on a nice and warm afternoon. In some parts public transport on Rhodes reminds me on public transport of my hometown Jena in the late 1980 GDR times. Not air conditioned high-floor busses, open windows and warm air draughts through the vehicle while the low sun shines in your face. The engine roars under the hot floor and you can feel every vibration coming through. Driving like crazy, the driver does not even stop before opening the doors when approaching a bus stop. The air pressured doors are opening undamped with a loud clash. In some busses it felt like time traveling back into my childhood. And it felt like summer. Already miss it!
